On the first line
The first line
There on the very first day
For all that Seelampur is known for what arrives by truck, it was also present at the birth of the thing that changed Delhi most: the Metro.
When the Delhi Metro opened its very first stretch on 25 December 2002, running the original Red Line across the trans-Yamuna, Seelampur was one of the stations switched on that inaugural day. It sits at ground level on the Red Line between Welcome and Shastri Park, and it has carried the neighbourhood's commuters since the morning the network first moved. Dilshad Garden, a few stops east, would become the line's terminus; Seelampur was simply always on it, from the start.
